PHILOSOPHY
Keeping one eye on history and the other on the present
In a world of electronic bits and bytes, traditional art and design is often eclipsed by sparkling digital imagery. It maybe overlooked but it's still everywhere. Technology gives us modern advantages, including the ability to transpose digital images from screen into tangible art through print or embroidery techniques. Digital tools allow us to offer distinctive, elegant and efficient modern solutions. It's an exciting age where digital art meets timeless craft.
Legacy1215 takes the best of both worlds to produce creative design and imagery for a range of clients, from the youthful and fashion-forward, through to professionals in science, medicine and the law. From illustrators to animators, and textile art we make sure to clearly understand your needs, perfecting detail and elevating your projects with both technical expertise and refined artistry.
Art through Artificial Intelligence relies on other peoples' work - 'scraping' existing digitised art and literature and reconstituting it into a digital 'collage'. The results are often a crude 'AI slop' - haphazard and random output. Poor in quality because it lacks good human judgement - by an artist.
It's an interesting proposition that digital pushback might spark a real art renaissance, consigning the output of the hacks and charlatans who misuse AI imagery, to the dustbin. Digital e-reading neither rendered books extinct, nor superseded the enjoyment of reading one. It follows that machine intelligence and digital image creation will never replace traditional craft. Moreover, as it becomes more sophisticated, it provides tools that optimise and compliment workflows.
The Battle of Hasting 1066
On the 28th of September 1066, William, Duke of Normandy invaded the south of England. On the 14th of October the battle of Hastings in East Sussex resulted in a decisive victory over the English army led by King Harold Godwinson. The Norman conquest of England reshaped history, and forged deep ties between France and Britain. The Bayeaux tapestry tells the story of the conquest of England on a 70 meter-long embroidered canvas.
Bayeux Tapestry
Scene 56 of the Bayeux Tapestry depicts intense fighting, where Norman cavalry smash through Saxon lines at the height of the Battle of Hastings. "Hic Franci pugnant et cediderunt qui erant cum Haroldo" - "Here the French fight and have killed those who were with Harold".
The Magna Carta 1215
Magna Carta is one of the world's most famous historical documents. Forced on King John of England in 1215 A.D. by rebellion. Widely recognised as the foundation of the English Constitution it asserts the fundamental principle, that of the rule of law. It articulates the fundamental rights at the heart of constitutional government. Where the ruler or government, as well as the governed is subject to the law. It is a guarantor of freedom and free use of your property, implying total uninterrupted possession, without state interference, even after death. It was a protection against arbitrary or lawless rule.
Emperor Hadrian
One of Rome's most successful emperors. Military commander-in-chief of the Roman Empire at the time of it's widest geographical reach and the only emperor to explore every part of it. Architect of the Pantheon in Rome, and builder of a well known wall in northern England. Hadrian was a promoter culture and the arts. He implemented legal and architectural reforms, leaving a lasting legacy in Western civilisation.
